Spectrum 18? Brussels?!!

Unless the official Spectrum 18 artist list is messing with me, it looks like I'll be in Spectrum 18!!

I'm super excited. Two friends of mine also got in: the mighty Michael Manomivibul and unstoppable force of nature Brynn Metheney. Both of them live less than a block from my house :B


In related news, my friend Carl from Graphic Novel Art has been talking to people he knows in Belgium and got a few copies of Love Story in the Woods into the epic Brussels comic store, Brüsel. If any folks out there happen to be in the Belgium area you should probably make your way down there and buy a copy of my book; it will make you feel better about your life and make you more attractive as well.

Sam Weber/Jillian Tamaki aftermath

Seeing Sam Weber and Jillian Tamaki on Tuesday was amazing! They were the first people in a long LONG time to get me excited about illustration in general again. For the last year or two I've felt like I wasn't cut out to be a normal editorial/book cover/etc illustrator and comics were all that really interested me, but the two of them really made it, for lack of a better term, COOL to me again.

I grabbed Sam after he gave his demo and told him how seeing his work helped set me on the course to where I am now and gave him a copy of Love Story in the Woods. I can't believe how nervous I was in the first ten seconds I talked to him, it was ridiculous!

Anyways, I'm definitely going to start making more non-comics work this year alongside the comics stuff I'm already doing. I'll do at least one right after I finish the first five or six pages of the current comic, and here's the sketch for the second page!!

I have an unhealthy obsession with writing down song lyrics that sound profound while I'm drawing.

ALSO: I may be sending more books to another comic shop overseas soon!! I don't want to give away any details and jinx my pants off, but Western Europe might want to start getting pumped!! :O

International news brief (and a super late Valentine's Day to you)

A while back I mentioned briefly that I submitted work to a cool French publication, and it looks like I got in!!

The book in question is the newest artbook that the CFSL folks are putting together, and I couldn't be more excited to be on the list of accepted artists. From the moment I decided to really go for it and dive head first into comics, I knew I would need to look beyond the U.S. if I wanted to be successful whatsoever. However, I don't know any other languages and don't really know anybody in other countries. I kept seeing CFSL referenced by killer artists like Veronique Meignaud and Emmanuel Malin and wondered how I could get in on that community, and this seems like a pretty solid first step!

Love Story in the Woods has arrived in the UK!!
